About Me
I'm Jeff, the administrator of this site. You can find my profile here. My initial start down the path of VoIP and open source telephony started in mid-2003 after move across a state line with teenagers. After many fights over who gets to use the phone and two months of $400+ phone bills, I'd had enough and went with Vonage. This solved the primary issue of astronomical phone bills, but didn't solve the issue of phone availability and feeling limited to a featureset that wasn't being updated.
I had heard about Asterisk, and considered using it, but was put off with the lack of beginner resources and learning curve at the time. In August of 2005 Ward Mundy published this seminal Asterisk@Home how-to article and I used it to install my first Asterisk system on a then six year old Pentium III we had in a closet. This ended up not only changing our home phone system, but my career path as well. I've been using various derivatives of Asterisk ever since, performing perhaps one hundred or more installs and learning everything I can about the technology, system design, phones and providers.
