Finally ditching the landline

Although I still preach keeping a POTS circuit around as part of a well balanced voice system for most businesses, AT&T raised the rates again so I'm porting out the landline number for my home and home office.  Voip.ms will be the beneficiary and my $30mo bill will shrink to $1.49mo, plus usage charges which should come in under a dollar monthly.

I do feel somewhat mixed when I think of how much I learned about telephony using POTS over the past few years, like integrating with asterisk, using zaptel cards, FXO adaptors, fxotune (ugh!), but it's time.

The port request to voip.ms went in last Friday, and I received a FOC date of this coming Friday. A nice surprise, voip.ms has given me access to manage the DID already so it should be a seamless switchover. It appears that voip.ms's port process and perhaps the porting process in general has improved greatly.  It took one business day to receive a FOC date, 7 days untill cutover.  Can't wait.
